How To Redecorate On A DIY Budget

Simple DIY redecorating can mean the difference between your “house” and your “home.” Adding warmth and charm to your new place can be easy with a few fun and inexpensive ideas. Redecorating should not mean taking on an elaborate project or spending thousands of dollars. Sometimes a fun weekend project is all it takes to give your place a new look! Consider these quick projects when you have the time:

  • Are you tired of the drab light switch covers on your walls? Consider spray painting them a different color. Not only will the fresh paint give your wall a new look, but it will also camouflage any dirt. White switch covers can get a grimy look after some time.

  • Additionally, consider painting an accent wall! Accent walls are a great way to brighten up any room with a splash of color, and can be easy to paint over when it’s time to move.

  • If you are thinking about getting rid of old furniture, think twice before you toss it! A makeover can give old furniture a new life. Consider painting the furniture a new color or reupholstering the fabric. This is also a handy tip if you like shopping at secondhand stores or garage sales.  You can find great pieces and make them your own by simply changing the color. (I recently purchased a beautiful wood table at a garage sale for $10, sanded the table, and put a clean coat of varnish and the table looks brand new!)

  • A fail-proof redecorating project is simply painting the interior of your new home. It is amazing what a simple coat of paint can do to a room. A tiny room can seem much larger just by choosing the correct color palette. It may be a good idea to tackle the paint job prior to moving into your new place. Painting prior to your move can avoid having to move furniture once you’re all settled in.

  • However, if you are looking for a less labor intensive job, try switching out the door knobs and cabinet hardware throughout your home.

These are just a few ideas to settle into your new residence after your move. Try one or all of them to spice up your new home!
