Q:Tell us about your background – where you’re from, where you went to school, how long you’ve been in the real estate business?

A: I’m originally from Del Rio, Texas. I graduated from Texas A&M’s Lowery Mays School of Business in 1999. Upon graduating, I moved to Houston, and accepted a position in the banking industry. I originally began my career in real estate as an investor. I discovered that I had a talent for helping people buy and sell properties and decided to get my real estate license in 2005, at which point I joined the Keller Williams Metropolitan office. That same year I won Keller William’s Met Rookie of the Year award. Soon after, I decided to take my business to the next level by forming a team. We’ve been in Houston Business Journal’s Top 25 Real Estate Teams, every year since 2010.

Q: What’s a tip that you can give our readers who are shopping in the Houston market?

A: Partner with a realtor who is knowledgeable in the market, can help you make the best possible decision, and help you get the best possible deal. It’s a major purchase, so do your homework and make sure you’re working with the best in the industry!

A: I moved back to Houston, my hometown where I was born and raised, after graduating Texas A&M University in 2015. I studied Technology Management and Business Administration and proceeded to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment as a Business Development Analyst for an energy provider. I’ve always been passionate about Real Estate and helping people at a young age. This passion prompted me to obtain my Texas Real Estate license adding to my growing accolades and helping people achieve their real estate goals. I have been in the real estate industry for almost a year now.

Q: What’s a tip that you can give our readers who are shopping in the Houston market?

A: ALWAYS become a pre-approved buyer before shopping. This will give you better leverage when it comes to negotiating with the seller. The pre-approval process is very simple and will show sellers that you are serious. We have referrals that we’ve worked with in the past that can assist with this.

Q: What’s a tip that you can give our readers who are shopping in the Houston market?
A: The best tip I can give your readers would be to consult with a licensed Realtor before beginning the process. Interview 2 or 3 agents to determine who you feel comfortable working with. Have a list of questions prepared. Discuss financing options, lender etc. Ask about the search process. Ask about inspections. Q: What do you provide to your clients that really makes your service special?
A: I focus on customer service, which means customizing my efforts to the clients wants and needs. I listen carefully to client requests and sometimes they’re the unspoken requests. I also, communicate in the most desirable manner for the client.

Q: What’s the biggest perk of living in Houston?
A: I call Houston the “smallest BIG city in the country”! What I mean is that while Houston is a major metropolitan city there are aspects that make it seem small. The number of small businesses, parks, hospitals, and neighborhoods that are intertwined into this huge city gives it a small feel at times. You never know when you’re going to run into someone you know!

San Antonio Realtor Spotlight: Dean Sueltenfuss


Keller Williams Realty agent Dean Sueltenfuss goes by many names. He is known to some as “the dean of real estate”, to many as “the king of the open house”, and to a couple of people as Dean. A: I enjoy seeing others succeed almost as much, if not more than, myself.

A: Colorado for elk hunting. I spent 10 days on a mountain in a tent.

Where do you go to get away: Camping. And I mean in a little 2-person tent. Our favorite spot is South Padre National Seashore. This month we’re going to Cap Rock Canyon to hang out with the bison.

What makes you happy: Dancing. I started taking ballet in 1st grade. Today it’s mostly the Texas Two Step. I’m also into yoga and good food.

Why did you become a Realtor: I am really good at helping people focus in on what they really want in a house and then helping them achieve that goal.

What do most people not know about Lauren: I spent 5 years as a pin-up model for hot rods and classic cars.

Which celebrity would you like to have as a neighbor: Somebody fun and funny like Amy Poehler or Tina Fey.

Book or Kindle: Book. I just finished The Real Estate Game.

Where did you go on your last vacation?Our greatest passion has always been traveling. We have enjoyed some of the world’s most beautiful countries such as: Colombia, Chile, Mexico, Argentina, Italy, Switzerland, Ireland, Holland, Jamaica, England and France. Most recently? Brazil for the 2014 World Cup.

What was your first job? A bag boy for PUBLIX Grocery. I had to walk to the bus stop, catch the bus, and walk to the store. About 45 minutes each way. But the job taught me the importance of accepting responsibility.

Your favorite restaurant? Having grown up in Ft. Lauderdale, FL it’s no surprise that I’m a lover of seafood. Love Joe’s Crab Shack!

What was your first car? It was the family station wagon. Maybe not the coolest car…but I could get 10 of my friends in it. Fun times!

If you could live anywhere in the world besides Central Texas, where would it be? Probably Colombia. My grandparents are still there. It’s a beautiful country. I find the traditions and culture very interesting and I would like to experience what my parents did before they migrated to the US.

What’s the secret of your success as a Realtor?That’s easy. First I’m with JB Goodwin…a fantastic and very supportive company. Second, their support allows me to focus 100% on my customers. I have an effective marketing plan that helps my clients to quickly get their home sold.

Leslie Negron Cortese

From Florida to Texas, Leslie has had a passion for real estate. Learn a little about her story and how she became a Realtor.

Beginning her career back in 2005, Leslie was the Office Assistant for a real estate office in Fort Myers/Naples, Florida. As you may recall, 2008 began one of the worst real estate busts in modern U.S. history. Florida was one of the states hardest hit. Leslie saw abandoned high-rise, ghost-town condominiums with the wind whistling through them. And she witnessed homeowners who had left keys to their houses in their mail box and walked away.

Leslie says, “Fortunately I was a salaried employee at that time. But I knew that I wanted to get my license and be a Realtor. I guess you could say that when you begin your career at the bottom of the market…there is only one way to go from there.”

So she moved back to Texas and got her license. And the timing was perfect when she moved to Austin in 2011 because the market was really growing stronger every month. Since then she has helped her clients buy and sell their homes. Although most of her clients are in Central and North Austin…she has clients as far away as Houston and Bastrop.

How Does She Do It?

“It’s all about building relationships. This is my chosen career and I’m in for the long haul. I don’t rush clients. Instead I help educate them so they can make the right decision when the timing is right.”

Little About Leslie:

First job? In a hospital in their medical records department. I learned accountability and responsibility.

First car? A 1990 Pontiac Bonnevillew

Favorite restaurant? Chi-Lantro is my favorite food truck. They have a killer tofu burger. Restaurant? It has to be Kervey Lane.

Seen any good movies lately? Yes. The Giver. It was about a utopian society. But all human aspects had been removed. Very thought provoking.

 Meet Realtor Barbara McLaughlin

Barbara’s motto in life and the “secret” of her success as a Realtor is to always give more than you receive. Barbara grew up in Kentucky and began her real estate career nearly 40 years ago in the small military town of Cherry Point, NC. She was the first woman realtor in a good-old-boy town. She remembers very well the first house she sold. It was to a young military family coming in from overseas.

Over the years her real estate career flourished as she and her husband moved to California, Arizona Colorado, and Nevada. She didn’t like the lifestyle of Las Vegas and wanted to move to an area of the country with trees, lakes and fairly close to a beach. After much research she decided the Austin are met all of her needs.  That was back in 2009 and today she says she couldn’t be happier.

Where is Barbara Now?

Since then Barbara has been a top-producer for JB Goodwin Realtors. She was recently honored as the company’s top corporate relocation agent as well as the President’s “Crescent” award for going “above and beyond expectations.” . She is also very active with the Williamson County Association of Realtors.

Read any good books lately?  – My favorite authors are James Michner and Fern Michaels. I love their stories about Texas and its history.

Your favorite restaurant?  – P F Chang’s

Your advice for a home buyer?  – Meet as many of the items on your checklist but still maintain a family life. In other words, stay within your budget and don’t live for your house. 

When you want to just chill?  – One word. Ocean. All I have to do is just put my feet in the sea and I’m instantly chilled.
