Moving Tips That Will Save You Some Stress
We all know that moving can be very stressful. So we’ve developed some of the best tips for our Austin movers to follow to reduce as much stress as possible. Having moved over 30,000 homes last year alone, we know what it takes to provide a stress-free move.
Donate Your Unwanted Items
Don’t be greedy with your stuff! Getting organized before moving day is crucial, so having unwanted or old things lying around the home can be distracting. If you don’t need it now or in the future, donate it for a cleaner move. Some places will even pick up items on your behalf, so it’s a good idea to do some research on charity organizations. Save the trouble of moving unwanted and old items into your new home.
The Right Kind of Moving Box
Make sure to use the right kind of box for specific items. Don’t make the mistake of using very large boxes for very heavy items. Book boxes are small for a reason. If you start packing your books in a large box, it is going to be very heavy! Pieces of papers seem light, but when you put them together, they get heavy really fast. Instead, stuff those large boxes with items that are light in weight. Pack all your pillows and blankets in larger boxes and keep the heavy stuff in your smaller boxes.
Label Your Stuff
Label your boxes so when our Austin movers unload your belongings, they’ll know exactly where to place them. Before your movers arrive, do a complete walkthrough around the entire house to make sure all your loose items are packed up. Don’t forget to check your attic or kitchen. When it comes to your personal belongings that you must have on the night you’re moved out (toothbrush, medication, a change of clothes for one day), place those items in a suitcase that you will take with you in your own car. You don’t want to be digging through all your boxes to find your toothbrush when you’re already so tired from the move. And you certainly don’t want your child to be missing their favorite blanket when they need it at night. Having your must have items next to you will take away a lot of stress from an already stressful day.
Reserve the Elevator
If you’re moving into a high rise or an apartment complex where you must use the loading dock, call ahead of time to reserve that dock. Our Austin movers can only go as fast as the elevator of that complex. If there is limited access to that dock and elevator, reserving it is a must because if you don’t, it could significantly slow down the moving process especially if you have to share that elevator. It’s a good idea to call in and get it designated to where you’re the only person using it.
These tips will save you time and money! If you’re utilizing our Austin movers, this will definitely save you and your movers some stress.
