How Long Will My Move Take?

How Long Will My Move Take?

If you’re gearing up for a move one of the questions at the top of your mind is how long the process is going to take. It’s important to plan out each that you don’t end up running short on time and low on patience.

The three phases that you’ll separate your move into are: packing, moving, and unpacking. We do have to preface this by saying that every move is different and while this guide definitely gives you an idea of how much time you are going to need to set aside for each phase these are general estimates.

PHASE 1: PACKING

Studio/One bedroom apartment: 1 to 3 days
Two bedroom apartment/house: 3 to 5 days
Three bedroom apartment/house: 5 to 6 days
Four bedroom apartment/house: 6 to 7 days
Five bedroom apartment/house: 7 to 9 days
Six bedroom apartment/house: 9 to 12 days

THE EXTRAS!

  • If you have a storage unit/garage/shed add 1 to 3 days (depending on how large/full it is).
  • If you hire professional packers you can expect that it will take them around half the time that it would take you to pack your home.

PHASE 2: MOVING

Loading a 24 ft truck (a standard size moving truck) can take anywhere from 3-10 hours. You’ll also need to factor in the time it takes to drive to your new place and unload. The time varies depending on the amount of belongings that you have and whether or not you are fully packed on the day of your move. If you’re fully packed your movers can get right to work. Loose items (items that are not boxed) can add hours onto your move. Additional stops along the way to pick up items will also tack on time.

PHASE 3: UNPACKING

The unpacking process is something that most of us dread. In general, takes a little less time to unpack than it does to pack. When you’re unpacking you’re just placing things where you want them instead of having to wrap, fold, and. The key to a smooth unpacking process is to resist the urge to procrastinate and take care of it as soon as you get moved in!

IN CONCLUSION

Most of the stress that people experience during a move is due to a lack of time, giving yourself enough time to complete each phase prevents that frustration from ever happening!
